Boat battery monitor

A boat battery monitor that tells you days left, not just volts

Volts tell you very little about a lithium bank. Cloud Shelter's boat battery monitor reads your battery management system and your Victron devices directly, shows the whole bank — every pack, every cell — and turns it into what you actually need to know: how long the power will last and when something is drifting.

It is the Power device: a compact monitor that connects over Bluetooth, with no shunt to install and no cables to the batteries.

Lithium battery monitor for your boat's BMS

The monitor reads JBD, Daly and JK lithium BMS packs over Bluetooth: state of charge, voltage, current, capacity, cycles, temperatures and every individual cell. Packs wired in parallel are shown as one bank, so the headline is the whole bank's draw, not one pack's.

Because a lithium BMS accepts one Bluetooth connection at a time, the monitor holding that connection also keeps strangers' phone apps off your pack.

Victron boat monitoring, without the Cerbo gap

Up to ten Victron devices — SmartShunt, SmartSolar, Smart Battery Sense, Orion and more — are read through Victron's encrypted Instant Readout with just each device's MAC and key. If you already run a Cerbo GX, the monitor can publish your third-party lithium pack into it, so the real pack appears on the GX display and in VRM.

Shore power alarm and charging

When shore power drops, you are told the boat is now on its batteries. Solar yield is tracked day by day, so a charger that quietly stops topping up is caught the first day it happens, not when the fridge goes warm.

A reading you can trust

A battery's state of charge is a counter that drifts until the bank is charged full. If two meters on the same bank disagree, or a pack claims to be full for days without ever reaching a full-charge voltage, Cloud Shelter says so instead of showing an optimistic number as fact.

What the battery alerts tell you

Alerts are written for a person, not an engineer: the bank is low and falling, a pack is running hot, the BMS has raised its own alarm, or a Victron charger has reported a fault — named, not just 'Fault'. An overnight projection tells you in the evening whether the bank will make it to morning at the current draw, and a seven-day solar comparison shows whether today's charging was normal for the boat.

Fitting the battery monitor

The Power device needs a USB power supply within Bluetooth range of the batteries — typically in the battery or electrical locker. It sets up through its own setup network: you add your lithium packs and each Victron device with its MAC address and key from the VictronConnect app. There is nothing to cut into the battery cables.

What it does not do: it does not control or rewire your batteries, and it reads lithium packs from JBD, Daly and JK. Other BMS brands are read through a Victron shunt or Cerbo GX if you have one.

Questions

Do I need to install a shunt?

No. The monitor reads your BMS and Victron devices over Bluetooth. If you already have a SmartShunt, it reads that too.

Can it monitor several battery banks?

Yes — several lithium packs in parallel as one bank, plus starter, thruster and service batteries through their Victron shunts or Battery Sense.

Does it work with a Victron Cerbo GX?

Yes. It can publish a third-party lithium pack into the Cerbo, so it appears on the GX display and in your own VRM portal.

What does the boat battery monitor cost?

The Power device is €150 one-off plus €5 a month, billed yearly. Victron accessories are optional and one-off.

Will it tell me before the battery goes flat?

Yes. It alerts on a low and falling charge, and in the evening it projects whether the bank will last the night at the current draw.

Which lithium batteries does it read?

It reads the BMS of JBD, Daly and JK lithium packs directly over Bluetooth. Other batteries, including lead-acid and AGM banks, are read through a Victron SmartShunt or Smart Battery Sense.

Can it watch the starter and thruster batteries too?

Yes, through a Victron shunt or Battery Sense on each — they appear alongside the house bank with their own charge and voltage.
