Boat logbook app

A boat logbook app that fills itself in

A captain's log book app is only as good as what goes into it, and nobody wants to type up a passage at the end of a long day. Cloud Shelter's logbook records passages from the boat's own GPS and engines, so the facts are already there when you open it.

The same app plans maintenance, keeps the spare-parts register and holds the boat's documents — on the same record as the live monitoring.

Passages logged automatically

With the NMEA 2000 gateway, departures, arrivals and anchorages are detected from the track. Each entry carries the route, distance, time under way, engine hours, fuel used and the weather, and you add crew and notes. Manual entries — fuel, port calls, incidents — sit alongside.

How passages are tracked

Boat maintenance app, by date or engine hours

Service tasks are planned by date or by engine hours, and engine hours advance automatically from the engine data. Each job records what was done and when, so the boat's service history is complete when you sell it.

Spare parts and documents with the boat

The spare-parts register lists what is aboard and where, with part numbers. Registration, insurance, certificates and manuals are stored on the boat's record, so they are with you when a marina or an authority asks.

Works with or without hardware

The logbook, maintenance, spare parts and documents work on any boat with no hardware at all. Add a monitoring device later and the automatic passages and engine hours switch on.

Add yacht monitoring

Fuel and engine insight from the log

With engine data on the bus, the logbook keeps a fuel ledger: how much each passage burned and the fuel left, with an alert when it runs low. Over time it learns each engine's normal at cruise and notes when temperatures or pressures drift, and it finds the RPM that gives your boat its best economy.

Shared with your captain and crew

Give a captain, a skipper or a family member access to the boat, and the logbook, maintenance and documents are shared — everyone sees the same record.

Your records stay yours

Your boat's data is hosted in the EU, in Frankfurt, and stays in your account. You can export it or delete the account at any time from your settings.

Entries beyond the passage

Alongside passages and anchorages, the logbook takes notes, moorings, fuel stops, crew changes, port calls and incidents — each dated and tied to the boat. You choose which fields a passage records and which are required, so a charter or a club boat can insist on crew and engine hours while a family boat keeps it light.

Automatic passages, engine hours and fuel need the NMEA 2000 gateway reading the boat's GPS and engines; without it, the logbook is manual.

Questions

Is there a free boat maintenance app?

Cloud Shelter has a 30-day free trial of the Harbour plan, which includes the logbook, maintenance, spare parts and documents. After that it is from €5 a month per boat, billed yearly.

Does it log passages automatically?

Yes, with the NMEA 2000 gateway reading the boat's GPS and engines. Without it you can still log passages by hand.

Can several people use the same logbook?

Yes. Owners, captains and crew can be given access to the boat.

Can I keep maintenance for several boats?

Yes. Each boat on your account has its own logbook, maintenance plan and documents.

Can I export my logbook?

Yes. You can export your account's data from your settings at any time.

Can I make some logbook fields mandatory?

Yes. Each field — route, times, distance, engine hours, fuel, weather, crew — can be turned on or off and marked required.

Is it only for sailing boats?

No. It works for motorboats and sailing boats alike: passages are logged from the GPS track and the engine data whether you are under sail or under power, and maintenance follows each engine's hours.
